I would say it’s most cost effective to get a stem wind from the start and use the key wind as a spare parts movement

I would say this is best practice. Angelus made amazing stuff, but most of what we are working with on these is around 80-90 years old. Chances are that you’ll want a spare movement just for parts.
Also, movements with shock protection go for more than those without. I’m not positive, but I think you could transplant the train and bridges from a non shock protected stem wind into the balance and main plate from a key wind with incabloc (might need to drill a hole).
There was a thread on one of the other forums showing how to modify a key wind to stem wind, but it requires some expensive tools, a good amount of expertise and a few spare parts (that you either need to make or salvage from a stem wind movement).
I keep adding airplane parts to my motorbike but it still doesn’t fly

I found the thread where someone converted one. Pretty amazing but requires some serious skill and equipment
