Guys, I replaced a couple of staffs today and I came to think of that I wanted to show you one of my restored tools.
I have had this for a good while, probably 4 or 5 years or more. It came to me as a wreck, box in pieces, rusty parts, missing parts, damaged parts.
That´s how it is when you buy cheap and used tools.
So I sanded the box, glued the damaged parts back together and finally waxed it. Polished all the stakes, had the tool blasted (thank you McRae!) and oiled it - skipped painting it.
Started hunting for the missing and damaged stakes, completed this last year. It works great, I just love to work with it, as the first owner probably did some 80-90 years ago. Patience is the name of the game.
I don't know how long it took to finish this, perhaps a week in all, spread over these years.

Mine is the extended G. Boley set, I think there are some 150 pieces in there, plus the jewel press.
Yours looks like a Marshall, Favorite or possibly Kendricks, can't tell for sure.
I have dry hands, so no problem, I wash them so often that they release dust. LOLOL!
Oiling the tool and all the stumps and stakes with either silicone or thin oil will make a difference. There is a lifting tool for the stakes, that makes it easier when using the set.
Is the lifting tool missing in your set?
It is raw steel and even if it is polished it can be a bit sensitive to humidity, but nothing I have experienced so far. It is not that humid here in Scandinavia, which helps initially.

Thank you Master. I got it cheap from ebay. It actually come in wooden box but i told the seller i dont need the box cause the shipping cost a lot. Solid steel so heavy.
I found the cheapest set i can find that time. And yes no pull up pick. But the stakes are complete and a lot different size both flat and tampered points.

I bought it just to learn replacing balance staff cause i am sick of breaking them
and sending movement to Sweden hahahaha
