62mas base options

Post by jrlmsla »

Hey all.

I am interested in building a 62mas homage. I currently own the SBDC053 and it has become one of my favorite watches
Image

I recently have become intrigued by the SPB213 but have some issues with it that keep me from buying the gen
1. Same specs as my 053 but $500 more. Probably because it’s the 140th anniversary model. Anyway for that much more I would hope for an upgraded movement.
2. Has the same case as my 053. The modernized 62mas with beveled edge. I really want to build one with the original sharp angular edges.

Long story short last I looked there were a few options:
Heimdallr
Sharkey
San Martin

I noticed there are a few more now:
Tandorio
Seestern
Steeldive
Fifty four

Does anyone have any experience with these models? From what I have gathered it seems the first three are very similar if not made in the same factory.
I am unfamiliar with the last four.

I own a Sharkey. I can provide any kind of insight into its features.

I guess you are interested in the dial size and case finish?

I will post some macros, but the overall finish is ok for a 150$ watch

Good straight creases, good brushed/polished finishes etc

I would suggest Namoki as another option.

https://www.namokimods.com/

I have already purchased about 7 different cases from him and they are all of excellent quality.
Namoki's main cases are designed to be compatible with Seiko's SKX007 parts.
I used this cases in my recent 62MAS build.

https://www.namokimods.com/collections/ ... hed-finish

These cases are compatible with the general SKX007 parts, so you can choose the bezel ring, bezel insert, chapter ring, dial, hands, glass, crown, case back, etc. that are compatible with the SKX007 sold in various stores, all to your liking.
You can use either NH35 or NH36 movement.

About a year ago, Namoki and eBay started to sell a lot of interesting cases and parts that are compatible with SKX007.
These include 62MAS, MM300, Tuna, NCGPanerai, Bess&Ross, Submariner, etc.
With a little bit of searching, you can quickly find many products that pay homage to coin edge, LX type, monster tuna, submariner, deep sea, seamaster, and other bezel rings.

The appeal of this build is the countless number of combinations of parts, but conversely, the downside is that it can be very expensive.
In my experience, it generally cost around 250USD to finish a single build + shipping fee every parts.

Lastly, I'd like to introduce Namoki's Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/namokimods/

There are a lot of watches on there, mostly built with his products.
I'm sure you'll get some good inspiration from it.

I have used namokis before as well and will be getting a dial from them for this build.

The question I have about the SKX to 62mas cases or any SKX to ___ kits is that wouldn’t that change the proportions of the build?

An SKX has a bezel insert that has an outer diameter of 38mm and inner diameter of 31.5
Which is a width of 6.5mm.

A 62mas bezel insert outer diameter is 37 and inner diameter is 31.75 which is a width of 5.25

Doesn’t seem like much but we know in our little corner of the watch word that these differences can be significant.

Do you have pictures of your build or a link to a thread? Thanks

Sorry, Namoki's build is in the process of being reassembled with new parts,
so there are no completed builds at the moment.

I too am wondering about the width of the bezel insert.
I've purchased over 20 items for SKX0007 bezel inserts from anyhere, mostly in the product named 62MAS, which has a narrower bezel width.
Instead, there is a gap between the glass and insert, but some eBay sellers were selling double-dome crystals and had products that fit such narrow bezels.
However, when I asked for more details from them, I did not get a clear answer, so I may have to buy one to try it.

I had the original Seiko 62MAS, but it is the Fifty-Four Watch product that has the closest profile to the original.
In fact, I compared the two myself and found them to be very well done.

The 54Watch is a good base if you are looking for a 62MAS build that is true to the original.

https://www.fiftyfourwatch.com/6217-8000

It is interchangeable with the 28.5m dial and does not have the same chapter ring as the original.
The recently sold 6217Dial for NH35 will fit.
