My admire for Cortebert, must share here

Post by djolemag »

Hi folks,
(I posted same topic at HF #1, since I'm not sure where we are currently, here or there... )

I am currently at vacation, can't sleep as a habbit ...
So I found some time to write a little story and share my impressions and my great admire for Cortebert movements.

We all know how good they are, so many legendary movements made by Cortebert were done for some other brands etc, not to repeat well known facts...

I serviced a modest amount of them so far, not counting but approx more than 50-60 pieces of various calibres, 308/309, 492, 528, 532, 548, 616, 620, 677, 678, 693, 694, 697, 720, etc...

But, few months ago I "grabbed" yet another cortebert wristwatch cal 677 just for parts, it had good dial and owner told me it is not working... I thought "Nevermind, spares are always good to have..."

When I opened it later at home, I saw "Cortebert 677 A" (A is important here)...
It is beautiful movement with chatoned jewels, CDG decorated bridges, Breguet hairspring (such uncommon, so far I saw only 677/678 models with flat hairspring) and of course, broken balance staff...
After few months of research, couldn't find any info on that particular sub model 677A... Finally, measured balance staff, it was the same as on regular cortebret 678 with incabloc.
Tried to change balance staff, everything work like charm...
After good proper cleaning, inspection, service and lubrication, it works like charm and has great results so far...
My point is:
this is relatively small movement (12 ligne) but it looks fantastic and runs the same way... I am so impressed with that fine art of watchmaking, which was done 50-60 or more years ago...

Judge yourself, various light angles...

Now, I noticed so far, it is missing proper micro adjustment swan neck, regulator point also seems not to be original part.. but will handle that somehow...

Thoughts?

There are indeed many really nice Cortebert movements and this one looks great! Good job restoring it and hopefully you find the missing parts at some point.
