eBay Steals
Anyone ever get something great on eBay and feel a little guilty about it? I saw a $30 pocket watch the other day with little info in the description. Picked it up suspecting it may have a surprise inside. Sure enough it housed a nice clean 6498 for my 3646 build I’ve been working on. After a little regulating it’s currently keeping +4s/d with a .5ms BE.

I love when that happens, here are 144 pages of deals. Subscribe to it, the whole forum shares the wealth. We even work it out when more than one member wants to bid on the same item

Re: eBay Steals
To your point.... there are deals to be had on eBay. I probably spend 1 hour a day scouring for watch and parts deals. I used to feel bad but then I figured that if the seller had put any time and effort to researching the item, they would know. There are certain exceptions I make to help though.
I also think my sympathy took a huge hit years ago when I found a WWII laco b-uhr that was poorly listed. I did the responsible thing after 5 days of watching and the needle not moving. I had a Pm exchange and told her/him how it should have been listed. It was relisted and it went for FMV (about $3K iirc)... I didn’t even get a thank you.

Good on you for messaging the seller! I’ve definitely had some great too good to be true moment on eBay and also some very sobering ones.Tanukjaju wrote: ↑February 27th, 2020, 6:19 pm To your point.... there are deals to be had on eBay. That's a very nice gesture! Nevermind the unappreciated behaviour from the seller. I always believe good deeds will definitely repay you and when you least expected it.Tanukjaju wrote:To your point.... there are deals to be had on eBay. Re: eBay Steals
Many years ago I actually did won a bidding of a Ltd Edt watch in NOS condition and full sets for a very good price! I have talked to the seller and he said it is a gift that he does want and are actually happy that it is sold
. I later sold it away for some profit as I find the watch size are too small for my taste back than. But eventually I regretted after I sold it!
Silly me.

Re: eBay Steals
Amazing! I love that watch related items can still be found for a steal online. Unfortunately I’ve had no luck in this area when searching junk/antique stores in person.Yoda wrote: ↑February 28th, 2020, 2:32 am A few good deals, yes. Feeling bad about it, no.
I found a complete, large and extensive staking set for $45 years ago.
A pristine Angelus SF240 for less than $100, a Hamilton 18 size 923 made for Imperial Canada, less than a thousand made, got it for $40 and it's worth at least $600-$700 to the right buyer.
Recently I bought an Angelus SF240 for $38....
