I happen to own this little fellow who made the Guinness Book of records with similar specs :

I was amazed with the built quality when i bought! I occasionally wear it sometimes ,i still keep it just of the built quality ,its not easy to find such a built! I remember i got the last serial then they were sold out back in 2010 .
maybe they re-released them.
I really like the Omega though ,its looks superb!

I guess its a techy thing ,to show what you can do and also be different.
Same reasons some buy a car with over 500hp and max speeds of over 350kmh ,when there are no public roads to achieve that speed safely and there are no tyres in production that can handle more them 350khm for more then 10 seconds!!
Just to have the feeling you drive something techy!
An average quality dive watch will hold pretty well ,most pro divers dive with citizens and dive computer ,who would dive with a $$$$ watch unless he had a sponsor!!If an $500 watch breaks who cares, the dive computer costs way much more an will save your life!
But if you were a pro you wouldn't go buy a $21.000 pam to dive would you !
I bought the 20,000ft watch because i fell in love with the massive titanium case and most of my friends were making fun that is something happens we will recognize you from the watch ,since it will be the only survivor!LOL!
And it wasnt that pricey for the built quality alone.Still its remains mostly a collectors item!
The deepest dive made by man was made by a Greek Diver Théo Mavrostomos at 721 meters in Marseilles France in 1992 working for Comex, during a Sat Bell dive ,it too 24 days to decompress !!

+1, I found myself here. M we have something in common if it comes to take care of a watch.Yoda wrote:I guess I am not the one to judge here, I even protect a divers watch under my clothes when it is raining....I dislike stains on the watch and wet straps.
I take off watch and rings when cooking food and washing my hands.
My personal opinion on this is: who needs a watch which is made to cope with water depths like 1000 or 2000 meters, the deepest anyone has ever been wearing only bathing trunks is 120 something meters and I am absolutely sure that he didn't give a damn about looking at a watch.
Run over by a truck, shot at, dragged around, stepped on, thrown around, what's the point, apart from showing that it is possible?
Ok, I have a Mille Metri and it made 1032 meters if I remember correctly, but that's just because I had the possibility to finish it and make it live up to its name.
I hate dings and dents on cases, I polish out every ugly spot on polished cases and brush bracelets now and then.
I blame my life, too many things has been destroyed beyond salvation and repair, that's the only reason I can think of.

I think for me, even though I’ll never go to 10 meters nevertheless 1000, it’s fun to see a watch with the functional engineering thought through to those extremes.
The same reason I like Speedmasters and Ploprofs and Mille Metris.
Built to extreme conditions that I’ll never see and their aesthetics often shows in the styling.
