I was sure it was the weathering. The color looks really nice,a little rusty:)

It is brass.

My daughter had a t-shirt made for me, "old shooters never die, it just smells that way"... I don't want to wear that in public, only at home and at the summer house, but it is a much loved piece of clothing and I never work in it.
