When I first joined the forum it was to look for a very particular watch: a 3646 in Bronze. Unfortunately as of last year no one had one for sale, I've been drooling over Nejad's case ever since it came out but of course now that it's out I'm a bit short on cash.
The entire time though I have been slowly but steadily working on a solution. I have converted an Athaya 6154 to a 3646 and would like some opinions on the finishing touches.
My main concern is that I think Athaya's Onion crown is too small for this build, what are your thoughts?
I'm also thinking about taking some more off the plexi so the edge of the plexi meets the bezel
The Build - Taking the 6154 case I:
Cut off the lugs
Hand filed and sanded the corners to mimic the shape of a 3646
Soldered on solid bronze bars - which also resulted in me horribly warping the case (overheated ) and then spending the next day gently reheating on a bronze dapping block until it returned back to a circle instead of an oval.
Repolished the case
Added a thin SS caseback
Reshaped a Quizat plexi by hand and repolished it
For the crown I bought an Athaya onion and Delaforce was kind enough to bronze plate it for me (Thanks Dela!).
I have a Hamilton 945 waiting in the wings, but I think I may try to install a 2834-2 auto first, if the movement ring comes out.
Anyhow here are some shots
Reshape
Almost finished
