Hi Gents, I am having a problem with the crystal (T24) on my Athaya 6154. The crystal is basically disintegrating!
This is the second one and I spent some time enlarging the inner diameter and reducing the outer diameter to relieve some pressure. I also smoothed the inner bezel and all seemed fine. It is still crystalizing and cracking and I can’t come up with a fix(?)
I have some photos of the the first plexi and the current one as well.
Hopefully someone has some experience with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Ha Ha! Yes I think so. Maybe glue instead of pressure fit

I'm going to take a wild guess ... you are going from an extreme cold outside to a warm indoors ... plexi will expand and contract. Also, plexiglass ... depending on the quality ... is prone to getting brittle in cold temps
just few things to think about ... I wouldn't take too much off of the metal, would take off the plexi instead ... it's cheaper to buy plexi crystal .. than a bezel.

Re: Need some help
Sounds like there may be too much pressure on the sides of the plexi. Even tho you are sanding it down need to make sure it's a snug fit but not too snug. Also the more you sand the inner and outer walls of the plexi the easier it is going to crack.
What is the diameter of the watch bezel vs the T24? If we can see the diff maybe we can tell you if it's just too much to sand down safely.

Re: Need some help
@TimemiT, thank you for the quick reply. The hot cold thing is something I haven’t considered. It would explain why it lasted all summer and fall, and began to fail in December. Unfortunatly that means it is unavoidable unless I enlarge the plexi. Ill try that with some UV glue to secure itTimemiT
@blueradish, thanks also...this is Athaya stock case and plexi. I cant do the measurement digitally as I am awaiting a new caliper. But I know it is the standard plexi for this case. I think it is the expansion thing as the timing is just too coincidental, including the fact that my other 6154 case is doing fine and I haven’t worn it this winter. I will watch the thickness and remove a reasonable amount... should work

Re: Need some help
I know Athaya 6154 takes t24 plexis, but have you tried using a t25 (supposedly larger).
Maybe it would only need a bit of outside perimeter sanding.

Oh, that would explain a lot. I didn't use the stock plexiglass. Just one from Quizats.tafari wrote:as I build my athaya 6154 it also came with a plexi like this. athaya send me a new one and I glue it inside. perfect fit and no craks

Re: Need some help
dont glue it, use silicon grease to get wr- this sill allow plexi to move etc.
