I think to service the movement and also find the problem is a good plan.

Great news, thanks to the experts on the forum.

The issue was with the stem and it was an easy fix and the Angelus 240 movement was fully wound and has been keeping time for the past few hours and will stay at my watch smith for a few days for observation.

Angelus movements are very temperamental. I don't bother with them anymore. They react to pressure from too tight a case back and numerous other things. I've had 4 and all were a pita
Luckily I lived by Gordon who would sort them out

This is my second Angelus movement PAM, my first one was from Gordon and I have never had issues with it.

Angelus 240 movements are nothing special mechanically. Any COMPTETENT watchmaker should be able to diagnose and service them. Parts are an issue sometimes because they have been out of production for 60 years or more and Angelus as a company was defunct. People expect far too much from these movements. They were a cheap 8 day clock movement. Adjusted to 1 or perhaps 2 positions. They are NOT chronometers. They're not high quality. If they keep time to within 30 seconds a day in a wristwatch configuration you're doing well. Mainly because they were adjusted for dial up and crown down ONLY. Like eebee said they ARE tempermental. They were never meant to be wristwatch movements.

Running at about plus 20 seconds a day which is no big deal. Ready for pickup on Saturday, 7 February.

Can't wait to get it.
