Tropicalizing new dials "sauce"?

Post by Natas78 »

Hi there,

Wow the forum got an overhaul! Looks great!

Well I know Perezcope isn't this forum's best friends, but I like to read his articles sometimes.

While doing so it appears that the auction houses often sell watches with fake tropical patina, Jose pointed out a few times that there is some kind of liquid used, as there were some traces of it found on parts of the dial that weren't supposed to be touched by it.

Now the 1 million dollar question is, what are they using??

Tropic dials are black originally that fade over time to brown colour- there is a post I’ll have to search for that discussed rolex tropic dials.

I think I’ve found a method to the tropical dial, but it’s more along the lines of alchemy or witchcraft than artistry or engineering. I need the summer sunshine to experiment with, I’ll post if I have any success.
