Hey guys (and probably one girl) it seams like eternity since i visited HF
I did a quick search and i saw a post (saying Hi like now) form 2020... time flies
I got a sad news that Joe left us and i log in to see if this was the truth. Sadly it is.
Joe was a The Man, he was talented renaissance man sort to say. we shared passion for sailing and we would spend more time talking about the boats then actually talking about watch projects we have collaborated. Joe also loved motorcycles and same as my self he realy had thing for Triumphs. He loved all the things mechanical and he had such eager mind that loved to solve mechanical problems. At one moment his health started deteriorating, he had to move his shop, got some serious back problems. At the same time i have re focused my interests and watches went to the last shelf of my brain. I didnt keep much in contact with Joe, i would send him mail every now and then as i had some builds with him, but i didn talk to him in a year or so. Really sad news.
I would love to see old school builders round up. Looking back to the game 20 years ago its amazing for me how well did we do things with such limited resources. Rep game was one thing but Vintage watches were "terra incognita" and yet we did made some amazing stuff first 3pcs dials, first real 3646 case sets, A240 movment conversions, straps all the things started happening at once, instantaneously and just in few years we went from modding Reps to look vintage in to building "1:1" builds that in some extend were better build then originals... I would really love to see old school builder virtual gathering where we could at least puzzle a timeline and talk about the begging of this hobby
I have one watch at the moment: Flieger based on San Martin Big pilot powered by 6498-2. I am blown away to see the companies like San Martin or Rdunae and similar building this much of watch for this little money. As i dont have shop any more and no real means to do metal work i did back in 2007 - 2015 i am set to lit builds and off the shelf parts available. Its mind blowing what you guys have today basically one click away.
the Micro Brands are another thing. For example Unimatic is applying same principals i did with my builds back in the days but on more cleaner and comercial level. For me it was never about building perfect rep of 6154 but rather taking the exact inspiration, the DNA and then run with it making a something that paraphrase the idea and not just pure replication. My hart is full when i see micro brand form China building better Vintage Seiko then the Seiko or better Tudor Black Bay then the Tudor.
Lets try to do a retrospective on Joes work, let us post his builds, lets make little homage to the true artist but also to the spirit of old HF

HI Nejad...
It's a pleasure to hear from you again and read your thoughts with that nostalgic flavor of the good times of 10/15 years ago. Today there is a lot of talk about AI (future in technology), but the fascination of everything that the past represented does not let us go. The refinement of innovation in vintage watches is proof of this... just look at the windows of famous and non-famous brands, re-proposing pieces always with a vintage style... which is in fact now history in watchmaking...
