Valjoux 7734 suggestions

Post by Danhan »

In the spring I scored an eBay valjoux 7734 for not much money and since then I have been racking my brain for how to build it.
The case is the typical 1970s small cushion shape which I can live with but finding a dial that isn’t totally awful seems a hurdle.
Have any of you reworked a 7734 and have any suggestions for dial or dial maker ?
Ideas and inspiration much needed.

I have built two custom vintage chronographs. They were challenging builds but turned out great. One dial I had to cut off the feet, the second was custom built without feet.

I would recommend figuring out a way to add feet to any dial you use. It is hard to line up the subdial hand holes and regular hand stack. With dots, micro movements create headaches.

Thank you for the advice I hadn’t thought of that.
Do you have any pictures of the builds?

@Danhan below are links to the builds:

Heuer Autavia

Daytona Prototype

Do not follow my instructions on dial feet. You will need to mill the dial to recesses the footplate. I did not do this and it created a height issue.

The white dial watch is refreshing after seeing so many horrible dials. I like that a lot

Those builds look fantastic Mountaineer! You’re right about the dial placement on the Chrono movements, the subdial pinions are so small and short that there’s no wiggle room - everything needs to line up perfectly.
