Help Needed: Unknown Asian GMT issue

Post by atkin68 »

Need some help. I bought a cheap GMT from Wenping with the plan to take off the crown gaurds, add my own plexi and dial, and drill/tap a better crown. Fantasy summer beater. Things have gone alright with the mods I wanted to make, and while I'm waiting to get a dial made, I decided to just put it all back together with the original dial for a test fit and to adjust the stem for my new crown. All seemed fine till I tried to push the crown into running/winding position - it won't go back in. Stuck in time-setting. Can't get to the date position, or to winding/running.

I don't know this movement and I've never worked with any GMT movement. I have no idea what happened or if it is just a bad movement. Obviously cheap - but it has never been used. I have tried just pushing it in, and I have tried pushing while depressing the release button - no luck either way.

Can anyone tell me:

1. What this movement is a copy of?
2. What might be wrong and how to fix it?

If I can't figure it out, I'll switch gears and use an NH35 I have laying around, fashion a movement ring for it, and bag the GMT.

Here's the watch I bought:

Thanks,
Dave

I think you will have to reset keyless work from dial side.

Lift off the dial and stuff to get to the setting parts, you have most likely pressed the release button too much.

Thank you both, that makes sense. I'm not very familiar with these at all.

It is a DG2813 economic movement with GMT function commonly called DG3804B. It is not a copy of a more valuable movement, unless we are talking about Hangzhou 6460 which is almost a clone of the Eta 2893 with gmt function.
A problem like yours has also happened to me, and almost certainly the action that changes the working position with the winding shaft comes out of its seat, not allowing regular operation. Therefore you will have to take apart the dial and date disc to repair it, hoping that something is not broken.
It's not very complicated, but try it.
Good luck friend
