Tickoprint... Anybody Use It?

Post by Gatchaman »

As the title asks.... does anybody here use Tickoprint to regulate their watch? I've had unsuccessful results from it trying it out on a Rolex GMT that gains 5 seconds in a week. Tickoprint reports a timing range between -140 to +120 seconds in one 5 minute measurement. It's all over the place.

I tried a couple of the timing apps, paid five bucks for one of them I think. They weren’t really too reliable, but it might have also been that my phone is old so the mic may not be great. Ended up picking up a Weishi 1900 when it was on sale for the price of the cheaper model. Not really worth it if you’ve just got a few watches, but if you’re doing repair work it’s a big time saver and great for diagnosing problems easily.

I have an ELMA watch matic timing machine III that I bought ten years ago, it works perfectly.

I think that the seller gave me a discount so it was only around 20.000 SEK back then.

All work really well. They are computer based. The catch is you will need to make a microphone pickup. I do believe you can purchase microphone setups from Aliexpress that will work.

There is some additional software you can install on your PC that will give you an excellent set up. Equalizer APO. (You can filter out a lot of the noise that has nothing to do with the watch) and a program called Peace.

I took the time to make my own microphone and print out a holder. Very happy with the results.

You can find a lot of info on this thread....

Lots of info on this thread to read. In the end a piezo pickup, using a single transitor powered off the microphone input of the PC works very well with the above software.

"As you can see, the software picks up the watch signal quite well, as there are only a few missing dots. But we now see a beat error of 1.0ms, and a very variable beat rate – -1s/day when the photo was taken, but you can see that at that point the graph was quite level. Before, I had a beat error of close to -30s/day.

My problem here is that my customers will of course buy this software and use it on their phone – who doesn’t want a timegrapher to check on their watches?

Now if I were a customer of mine, and I’d get back this ETA from a service, and see the above graph, I’d be well miffed with the service I got for my money. But in reality, the movement is in perfect condition, and doing exactly what it should do. But according to TickoPrint, the performance is terrible, and as a customer, I will be very dissatisfied with the service my watchmaker gave me."

AVOID TICKOPRINT.
