I’ve a Seamaster Polaris that from time to time it has the following behavior:

Seconds hands kind of vibrates but doesn’t run keeps in the same second.

The gears are free, if I use a tweezer they move freely without resistant or much resistance.

Even when the battery was 100% new this happened like once a month.

Any thoughts? I’m thinking on replacing the circuit.

I am not a professional watchmaker but this is what I do to old quartz movements:

- remove the dial, hands and battery and drop the movement in a special cleaning solution (for quartz movements) and into an ultrasonic cleaner.

- unlock the movement with a special machine for short periods of time (less than a minute). 5 times more or less. WITHOUT BATTERY IN IT. Some people let it run for 30min non stop but that can be only done with professional machines.

You can use one of those cheap electric demagnetizers but be careful with the heat created. It can fry the tool itself. If you try this method, turn on the machine for only 5 seconds each time.

The key is making the movement rotate freely at high speeds. If you attach the hands, it would be easier to spot the perfect place to apply the effect.

Try at your own risk (I haven't had any problems in the past)

The Omega 1430 quartz movement is an ETA 255.411 with the Omega logo stamped on. If all else fails it can be less expensive to replace the movement rather than to diagnose and repair the old one. Good luck!

Yesterday sourced a brand new 255.411. Want to keep the main plate because of the Omega stamps.

It is in need of a service to begin with and if that doesn't work, replace the circuit.
The ETA-ESA 255.111 is now the 255.411 replacement part.
Otherwise you can simply replace the movement and replace the branded cover plate.

Serviced the movement and applied the listed test in the thread but still wasn’t working. Made a couple of tests and the coil was gone. Since the coil is coupled to the circuit had to replace the circuit. Now works fine.
