So, I started in this hobby buying four 6498 clones. One failed, but that was due to a bad second wheel modification. I also have 3 or 4 that have been purchased in donor watches. In fact, the movement in my Tokkotai project is a base 6498, no decoration at all, but is my most accurate non-quartz watch.
I've purchased several Swiss movements from unreformed66 and they are great.

So, look at the image below... It's a 6498 clone, but great looking. I'd be all over it for one of my experiments were it only a 6497.

That said, I can have Swiss for near the same price.

What are your thoughts?

that definately looks cool, but is for skeleton dial,
I have few asian 6497 and they all work very well, but i would choose swiss everytime.
Check the sites, price is lower than ebay, something similar

I don't really care for skeleton. I wish that movement had a solid main plate. I find most of my chinese cases have display backs, so why don't they do something like that for those watches? Geneva stripes are nice, but for some projects you want a bit more.

Regarding this movement over the one from Vesire's link: the one from my photo is chunkier and less 'skeletal' than the older, less expensive one. Also, the engravings are deeper/nicer, so it would match my firenze style engraved case better (were it a 6497.)

Looks like a nice movement. In my experience Asian 6497 behaved quite well, almost like old Swiss serviced movements. The only let down is that every 5-10 movements you get a bad apple.

If you do not have a small second in your build, you can still use the 6498; just turn it to slog the stem.
Alternatively, ever thought about using a small second at 6? For instance Ross can make you a Rolerai with small second st six.

I actually prefer the 6498 layout as it works with my sense of esthetic balance in a watch. So, I have mostly subsecond at 6'oclock, with one or two sub at 9 o'clock, and a few no-seconds. I actually have the movement in mind for a specific build that I am yet to complete. I do have a movement for it, and should leave it at tht. I just saw that movement and thought that it would be perfect for that specific build.

It's kinda like wanting a black or gun-metal grey movement for my rose-gold portuguese build. I already have a movement in it, but it would look cooler if.....

Expensive, but....

They have some nice movements but, yeah, they are a bit pricey.
