SEIKO BUILD No. 1
Let me begin with saying this is all @Hako's fault. He should have never posted about his Seiko turtle build (HERE you can see how a good Seiko build has to be done), and even less he should have let me lay my eyes on that list of Seiko modded parts sellers. That was just unfair.
Obviously I ended up in a shopping spree and bought a bunch of parts. I'll say this immediately: this hobby is not cheap, not at all. I bought parts for two builds with an average cost of 400-450 euro each. Not cheap especially considering you can get a nice skx007 homage from one of the chinese makers (Proxima, Heimdaller, Steeldive, you name it) for 2-300 usd shipped. But well, you know how nice it is to decide on every single detail and even more how fun it is to put all parts together. Once upon a time one would have paid labor to get a watch already built, now it's the other way around. Isn't it funny
Anyway, the first build I completed was more or less straight forward: all parts put togther with no mods. A very relaxing experience compared to my usual way of getting every single parts reduced to shreds then restored and reassembled in order to get that vintage style. It took me literally less than one hour to put the watch together though so the fun lasted too little time and like a real addict I immediately wanted more
Back to the watch, I opted for a Samurai style steel case with a sand blasted finish, it's nice and somewhat shiny without being too flashy. Midcase finish was a good match with the matte black bezel so I went for it and added matte black crown and caseback to go with it.
Namoki dial was a surprise. I wasn't sure of its look from the website but in person it looks very good, the "floreal" engraving goes well with the glossy paint and makes a good contrast with the matte black and grey case. Indices have good lume brightness which is quite important for this kind of builds.
Completing this build was real fun and the result is quite appealing to me, a nice tool watch for the summer.
Kitty's not exactly happy about my hobby. You know, she's thinking humans should concentrate solely on feeding kitties with their favourite meal
Here are the ingredients used for this build and the remaining pics:
Case: OSC Samurai/SKX007 blasted finish
Bezel: OSC knurled bezel matte black finish
Crown: OSC matte black white logo
Insert: OSC aluminium insert
Crystal: OSC double domed sapphire crystal clear AR
Chapter ring: OSC polished steel
Caseback: OSC engraved matte black
Dial: Namoki
Hands: Namoki
Movement: Seiko NH35 black date
Strap: Seiko black rubber strap
Lume shot
That's all for now, second build will be posted shortly
