Falling Out of Love

Post by Piloten »

Have you ever dodged a bullet?
Have you lusted blindly and been blindsided by reality?
Have you chased and caught and wondered what the hell you were doing?

Twice in the last year, I have been caught up with watches I panted after, only to walk away crushed.

First, the mighty Pam526.

The stately curves, the businesslike contrasting hands, the sex of the countdown timer. Those of you from the old forum will recall the AD who fucked me over. Welllll, I finally got a chance at one locally. Went over, gazed at it in its gorgeous box. Buckled it on. It fit like wearing a manhole cover. On 240mm wrists. Somehow, the light weight design only made it less comfortable, like my wrist would have welcomed some comforting mass.

Next, I got a call from Satan. Er, I mean Jon, at my friendly AD. "Hey, I just got a special forces Oris GMT in on consignment. Give you a hell of a deal on it." So down I go , after looking it up.

Hmm. It sure is.... black.... Well, every guy needs one black watch.... strap it on. Fits not bad ... turn it over. Just, no. Somehow the total contrast of the hands makes it hard to read, which is just no..

I will go on dreaming and lusting.

What about you?

Falling Out of Love

As much as I loved the idea of the Seamaster 300 165014 , after owning one, it just didn’t bond with me.

I thought it might be a fitting alternative to a 165024 with big triangle which I’d still like.

Glad I could find it a new home.

The same for the Egiziano with the sf240 build. Had out briefly and just didn’t click.

The Black watch...I saw a PAM 1616 that I thought looked cool...Got one and no thanks if you squint it looks like any other GSHOCK.
Another Love lost was the Rolex 214270. Kind of thought it would make a good daily beater for bike rides. Nope the rep that I got was not airtight so so in the sun on my sweaty wrist it fogged up inside, I tried dehumidifying and resealing it, that didn't work so it got gone.

+1 on the 1616. Somewhat on the wrist it transforms into a black watch of no distinctive character. And no amount of strap change seemed to help...

modern Panerais in general.

I like the look of them when I'm virtually window shopping but as soon as I see them IRL...
