....that I for once was in the right place at the right time.

An old friend from work was retired at the same time as me, living alone and no hobbies, his job was his hobby.

I have been trying to stay in touch with my friends, I have said that a hobby or something is a must.

I received an email this morning, I am out in the archipelago and a couple of hours from where he lives.
It was literally a goodbye, so I called one of the other guys and asked if he could go there and check up on him.

It was too late.......

Sorry for your loss, lets hope he is at peace now. Sad that it came to that.
