Would you buy an item from eBay outside eBay?

Hi everyone,

I'm skeptical on making an eBay purchase outside eBay. Saw a nice item and made an offer. The seller, I don't know him neither anyone who does, sent me a message that would accept the offer but outside eBay and using PP to make the payment. The seller as 97,8% positive feedback from more than 100 sales in the last 12 months. Also replied to all the negative feedback. And talking about negative feedback it's the usual, scratch not visible in the photos or description, the normal stuff.

Every time I asked for more photos or details he prompt replied me back.

How safe will it be to be out the eBay and using PP to have some level of insurance? Would you buy it? Know some of you are experts on this :)

Thanks,
BM

pp is not so safe, if the seller shows an tracking number pp is satisfied, no matter if the tight item is in the parcel.

might be ebay will freeze your account for some time. because they reading emails and as far there are other information like email adress, it’s a sign for them that the deal is not made by ebay

I risked few times, when the seller asked me, are you on HF ? ))) then we communicated not on eBay... eBay automatically search for key words, like give me your email or phone number, they will not like if do this stuff and they will know it automatically. On eBay you protected with shipment and you overpay Only 5% on exchange rate. But if he ask PayPal to family friends you will pay over 10%. Bank transfer is the best. But you risk on shipment. depend on the sum you pay, maximum I risked 1200usd. Twice I was saved from Froadulent seller on eBay on sum around 5000usd

I have done it many times both buying and selling. you have to be very careful not to give it away in a bunch of stupid messages in eBay, First know your buyer/Seller...Do they have a large number of sales at similar price point and quality with 100% positive feedback. Have they purchased from you before or have you purchased from them before. Then just put in part of your email or your whole cell phone number. People with brains figure this out and make contact, Know your item and have a discussion, if the person on the other end is an enthusiast they will know details. I have sent and received money as PayPal gift and never had a problem and often saved much more than the 12.9% plus tax ebay charges. I think if your smart and have used eBay for many years its safe, If your Young and new and dont know your products stay within the system. The system, rules and laws are very often designed for the lowest common denominator.

I would always buy the seller.
And for a private person on eBay with his record, it would be a clear no-no for me.

Every case is diff, I've done it many times. I get the seller to send me a detailed PP invoice stating the item, then I pay it. PP has 6 months buyer protection on G&S transactions and with a detailed invoice, there is no dispute on what item you purchased.

1). How much are you saving?
2). How much now the item?
3). Is the savings worth the risk?

Thanks for all the answers.

Talked to the seller and he accepted my offer through eBay. Saved 15% from the original price and shipping costs.

Thanks H-F for the support.
