Attack of the Super Fakes

An interesting article I ran across. Specifically about how what the Swiss used to do to American manufacturers is now being done to them. :)

Just to clarify I have no issues with homage or replica watches. Just about every watch I regularly wear is a homage or rep.

I wasn’t aware that the Swiss once were big in the rep game :-)

And perhaps to add another hypothesis for the prevalence of reps:
If you can have sth so close to the real thing for 1/30 of the price, you start thinking that somebody is trying to rip you off and is making a mega profit...

Wow, this is a very good read. thanks jbglock So US watches > Swiss > and now China. Even the brand naming to escape being sued was so similar

What we as reasonable people think

Uhmmm... didn’t anyone notice the PAM372 vs PAM127 discussion that completely backfires?

Comic bliss for a Panerai-fan.

Maybe he should compare a Rolex 5513 and a 16610 and conclude that the 5513 is fake because the 1520 movement doesnt look as advanced/modern as a 3135.

   he got it totally wrong ... it's the 127 that is fake, the 372 is genuine! ... and the 127 fake is not even a superclone

The author would probably have a fit if he came here and saw the quality of what many here can do. :)

"Swiss Fakes" of American pocket watches are a collectible category of their own. And regardless of what that article said they were NEVER even close in quality to the genuine American products.
