What is your opinion on new age material for watch case manufacturing.
I am constantly reading that there is a large research done one building watch cases from new
"exotic" materials such a s carbonite, carbotech etc, this not forged carbon but extremely thin layers stacked together and
then processed in a special oven which binds then together to create a unified case of supposed extreme durability.
They are trying to use similar technology in aviation lately and joints or pistons in supercarsand also Frame parts to withstand high pressure from engine revs.
What is you opinion on using them in watches, except that is expensive ?

I saw a Panerai 1616 last week at a Boutique in France and got curious if this is the future and or how durable this thing can be .
Too bad the Boutique was closed and could not go in to have a Hands on experience.

I dont Mind, nothing wrong with old school, besides to love watches you accept the fact that you old school to begin with.
Most are mechanical and if not (even quart or battery operated) all have analog display, with few digital display exceptions!
I am old school in many things!
In watches i prefer titanium !
I am just wondering about the future and also the durability of such materials in watches.
Of course these are not something you can work on your home ,at least for now that is.

the carbotech watch is very lightweight but the material is brittle.

old school materials like stainless steel n titanium will always be around.

I feel the same way,of course they will always be around.
I am just wondering why everyone is rushing to built carbotech watches ,specially the traditional hi end watch makers.
Even Vacheron is starting a carbo tech watch!

I'm all for advancements and I actually quite like the carbon cases, but I recon they will be a fad or become for the specialty market like military.

I'm really diggin this new Squale with carbon case.

A fad perhaps for military yes but not for watches.
The Military does not purchase or fund expensive watches these days, actually i don't know if you ever get a watch.
if you are a service diver you get diving computers and or navigation equipment that are issued to your team not personally.
In aviation and automotive is already used allot!
I didn't know Squale still exists ?

There you go considered among the best Bronze buliders, Eventough i prefered the Broze Drass cases made by Anonimo Firenze (The Italian Anonimo) the previous decade.

Aluminium is a bit underrated imo, but there are durability issues. Other coatings on aluminium may improve tis. Good half way house is titanium- super strong and v light. Prone to marks however.
