Taking a poll. I’m curious how many people like to use display versus solid casebacks in their builds when the original vintage watch had a solid caseback, like the Panerai workhorse dive watches models 3646 and 6152 and 6154. Assume you have a nice movement like a 616/618/622. Do you prefer to show the movement or be like gen?

Show movement ... I spent way too much on these 240 and 618 movements to cover them up.

I realize when these vintage case sets and display casebacks came out ... the water resistance was not there, and the crystal on the caseback was usually glued on. Today's newer case sets ... better water resistance is achieved with crystal and gaskets. Gordon's MV 372 case set is an example of Noob factory case sets, with excellent water proofing.

I also prefer on my GEN watches

Me: Solid. The back doesn’t show when the watch is on my wrist. In the rare instances when I want to see or show the movement it takes a few seconds to unscrew the caseback. I’m happy just knowing that the cool vintage engine is under the hood, just as I would be if I owned a vintage Porsche 356.

I'd have a clear plexi hood installed on that 356

I like to take off the watch and lay it on table while I work .. watch the movement .. maybe just mental masturbation, but it's cool to see the balance wheel spinning

Depends, but solid in most cases

I like to wear glass because when I’m waiting around or killing time I like to stare at the movement. However, I always have a solid CB for them as well because sometimes you just want a change. Also for resale purposes it’s nice to offer both.

Although I have Display CB for nearly all Casesets, I prefer the Solid Casebacks...
