It is already threaded and how to make it a useable movement ring without messing up the threads.

Anyone out there who has/had this problem?

It would be great to hear the solution.
that’s a good question, I never did it. but I would build a opposite part where to screw the brass lump inside and than use a lathe. you could use a short metal pipe give it a inside thread like the same as the brass lump
Good one, I will look into this!

Probably easier to start from scratch. Thread a bar. Form the required steps for the movement. Part off and finish.

Making an internal threaded tube to hold it would work also, but the steps involved are more than starting from scratch.

You could also try to protect the threads and install the piece in the lathe chuck. I would use a four jaw as opposed to a three to spread the load around . (Less pressure on four points instead of three). There might be a little damage to the threads at four points, but you can clean that up and they will still work. I would try some thicker plastic on the jaws of the chuck. Heat it slightly before tightening down. I have also got lucky with stuff like this using large heat shrink tubing. I used two layers and not a scratch on the threads.

Good information! I will have to ask someone to do this, it is far more than I can do at home.

So, send it to be machined or hoping to find a suitable part in some cabinet.

It's too bad we do not live closer. :)

Just a fast question, do you have an Esdee case back or bezel? Do these thread onto the threaded brass piece you have? Same threads and size?

I need to check, but it is not impossible.

Plan B would be to open up the Oyang case to fit the set from the Esdee WL case and call it a day. A one size fits all thing.

The reason I ask, is I have a couple Esdee movement holders. One is for a SF240, I would have to check the others.

What type of movement are you planning to use with this build?

I am not sure, Unitas/ETA 649X or SF240, I haven't made up my mind yet.

What size is that movement holder?
I have some in different sizes.
I use same method for modding movement holders, a bezel that I also have in few sizes.
so need to know measurements and can send a movement holder or mod yours.

39mm, perhaps 38,90mm, I used analog caliper as my digital caliper checked out.
