Most interesting point.
What is a watch sample or a sampled watch?
Is sampling infringing and what is the necessary sampling amount for infringement....

To me music is a lot like watches. Can you make a diver without it being a copy of a Submariner?
When was the last time you heard a new song that was original? How many different ways can you play three cords before they start to sound the same?
I love music, doesn’t bother me that some songs are pretty much copies of others. My favorite example is these two:
Explosions in the Sky- Your Hand in mine
https://music.apple.com/us/album/your-h ... =318951791
Especially from 6:00 on
And...
Lights and Motion- Aerials
https://music.apple.com/us/album/aerial ... =585750122
Especially from 1:00-1:30
Both are great songs. But one clearly copied the other and the funny thing... the other isn’t too upset about it.
Homage watches... the best form of flattery

I guess music would be poorer without sampling.
And in the best case, sampling brings up new music like for instance DJ Shadow‘s Endroducing. Assembling these hundreds of music bits to a new whole is an art in itself and a deep nod to the originators because it requires such a vast knowledge of their work.
That said it becomes tricky when you industrialize it. From which sample size on should you start to give credit (cf. your three cords...), from which size on should you pay royalties, how old must a piece be that it becomes a common good,...
And yes, this easily transfers to our hobby, especially the creative part which led to so many fantastic fantasy builds in this forum. Irony is, that some of these seem to have inspired P*****i. Luckily, we are not industrializing.
