I believe the second floor of a detached work shop is what we here in the US call "the dog house". 
It is where you go to ponder what the Wife/GF is yelling at you about ... and it's usually about all the hours you are spending on the first floor!

The last I spoke with him, he was completing the stairs in the shop. He seems to be ramping up ...

Wow! He's gone all out! Custom flooring, impact windows?! I think that shop will be multi-purpose, he works on motorcycle as well.
