This hobby is easy on the eyes.

Woodworking.... that’s hard on the eyes!

Unfortunately yes!
About two years ago I was hit in the face with a block of wood that flew off of a lathe. It tore the front of my eye open and shattered my nose. ImageImage

And after five surgeries the finished product:

Doesn’t work as well as it used to!

Oh damn!! Ever since I had an eye accident at 21, I’ve always used safety glasses. Mine was from playing squash. (Similar to racket ball (for US members)

5 days bed rest in a hospital .... fortunately for me my recovery was 100%.

Well that explains it!

But seriously, my eyesight always suffers for a day after spending a few hours hyperfocused with 5x loupes on....

I always wear safety glasses. A full face shield actually. I just happened to be showing one of my boys how to use the machine, gave him my shield, pushed the power button and turned to go in the house when I heard a funny noise. So I turned and BAM!

Healthy fear!
But just like a horse... when it bucks you off, you get right back on. I think I was out in my shop messing around three days after the accident. And I haven’t quit. Just bought a safer lathe though!
