Also of note, the dial is less faded on the 9 oclock side, most likely due to being under a cuff.

Very interesting. And that dial looks so experienced. I wonder if all that patina really happened during that one year?

No way. That's what happens after decades of wear.
yes, you probably right. judge by his passion on sailing around the world, he might have wore it over and over again on thousands of his journey after the record-setting sail.
