M, sorry to hear this.
My grandmother is 103. She pointed out to me she has seen all of her friends die. She laughs and says it's not a bad thing. "Better then them seeing me die."
We talk a lot about the most ridiculous topics and I have learned so much about life and death from her.
Everyone gets to die o̶n̶c̶e̶ . (Some lucky people get to try it more than once.) It's sad that as we get older we see a lot more of it as our friends age.
Funny how our paths cross other peoples paths in life. The best outcome is a true friendship, even if it is too short.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
