Unadjusted is term for export to US market, as someone said - to reduce taxes. Movements with Adjusted engraving had more tax duties. See Hamilton, it is always adjusted, but it is not imported into USA.. Just as an example.
Positions, for me, watch must run pretty similar with dial up and down... All the rest positions should be with less amplitude (about 210 or more) and that info will say pretty much about watch condition. During usual day on wrist, it takes so many positions... Let's think: a guy who is typing on keyboard for a whole day, gis watch is mostly in some sort of Dial Up position. Hence, if you walk a lot, yuo will have Croen down position most of the day.
Also bear in mind that many old pocket watches had Breguet hairspring which is much more immune to positional changes...
If you look for manufacturer's specification, their expectiations are pretty far from accuracy... So everything between -/+30 sec/day and amplitude at 180 deg after 20 hours is good to go, like many Seikos...
Finally, measuring at some moment with bad mainspring is false result... As weaker it is, result will change significantly during MD unwinding, changing amplitude and accuracy...
Generally, if it keep time in 24hrs, it is good result. However, bare movement should be tested on timegrapher as a proof ...
I have tested few chinese timegraphers and compared them to Witschi, same moment and with same watch, there were almost no difference.
So, TG is best investment one can make, if you mess around with lot of watches.

That's a fact, but how do we explain the fact that watches sold in Europe were marked unadjusted?

Honestly, can't be sure. I suppose manufacturers didn't diversified production for various markets, like EU and US...

Sounds plausible.
