I love posts like this. Makes me think that I could possibly start selling some pieces and consolidate. I think most collectors have thought about this and possibly some like me have not managed to let go of some old favourites and see it through.... A very nice watch sir.

One step will lead to the next step, a natural development.

It's good to see that others face similar dilemma ... do I sell all my watches and builds and consolidate on 2 or 3 vintage pieces?
I feel the Rolex vintage boat has sailed at this point ... the price jump I have seen in 1655, 1675, etc. is astronomical ... that is, with some paperwork and box ... can it continue to rise?

It was a tough decision but I was pushed that way since we were having a second daughter and I was encouraged when I saw MarkMidlands free up some funds when he sold a few lovely builds.markluge wrote:I love posts like this. I said to myself “if I can sell the Cali then I’ll go for the grail.”
While it took about a month to sell I went ahead and sold off a few other builds too that were nice and just a few hundred here and a thousand there and it really began to add up.
I still miss the old builds but I’ve got a lot of enjoyment from this watch and feel like it’ll be a milestone piece for our family in the decades to come.

I had the same dilemma. Papers and boxes meant less to me and to fit my budget I had to give up on condition some.TimemiT wrote:It's good to see that others face similar dilemma ... do I sell all my watches and builds and consolidate on 2 or 3 vintage pieces?

That said I would recommend not selling ALL your builds but maybe some of the most pricey so you can have a bit of both worlds.
Maybe you can’t have a 1655 AND a 1675 but you could probably have one that has original beautiful dial/hands/bezel but needs a bracelet which you can find next year and it might help with the budget.
No, I don’t think the dealer prices that continue to climb can last forever but I also don’t feel much of them are at the peak of the market.
Also there are a lot of 5 digit tritium references that are still affordable and I feel they should be strongly considered.
Plus let’s not forgot there are plenty of other brands that provide exceptional history and value which are still vintage!
