Teens unable to read clocks

Post by Picksk »

Hello folks, something happened to me recently which reminded me of a post I came across on how teens were unable to read analogue clocks recently while browsing. Link to the original post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=433

Recently I was visiting my cousins place ( I had myself tested prior to visiting and drove to their place, avoiding flights seems better these days with COVID) and spent a few relaxing days there. One morning, I walked on my sister in law trying to teach her younger son, who is 4 years old, how to read analogue clocks. It was an interesting sight up until a few mins later, when her older son, my older nephew, walks in and being a smart ass he is, quips, hey mom, why are you wasting R***** and your time, all R***** needs to do is to ask Alexa and turns around and says, Alexa, what is the time to which the response is it is 1:15 PM   he then turns around, looks at us, shrugs and walks away, lol, I really don’t know, if I should be laughing my ass off at this or be sad at the state of today’s generation haha. Smart yes, but street smart, idk about that.

Yup, sad but true, let's hope watches stay alive.

I was talking to a 12 year old last weekend, had no idea what an mp3 was. He couldn't understand how I had music on my phone without opening Spotify. Then I realized he grew up with streaming from his phone.

I would like to think that he is going to be in a situation where Alexa or his phone is not available and he will remember you and the conversation you had about this.

To me, it's like when someone says that you don't need to know how to cook since you can buy all you want already done. Well, maybe not the same since some folks are okay with eating bread loaves without anything else added.

Yup, I've tested my kids few years ago with same phone... They were "touching" numbered holes, like clicking Image but they even didn't try to move the dial ...
After that I've explained them how it was like to use landline phone...
Also they asked : how we lived without internet? How we watched movies? Is it true (they heard about it somewhere Image) that we had movies on some black boxes ( VHS tapes)?
Is it true we couldn't rewind channels to earlier date?
Is it true we had only two broadcast channels?
Also I remember when they were learning analogue watch reading... Answers were 10:65 or 24:15... Image
Now they're fine with it... They both had dismantled one chinese movement, just for practice. However, it can't work anymore due to hairspring issue during dismantling process... Image

Also, questions:
Is it true you couldn't use calculators on math classes? Wow, how's that possible!?
Finally, conclusion :
" NO mobiles, no internet, no tv channels, no YT... It was so boring childhood, right Dad?". - my daughter
