These are usually from the 1970s and 80s. Pre ETA, Unitas 6497s and 6498s.

If you search eBay for ‘17 jewel incabloc pocket watch’ you will get some hits.

It could be a gift with the year 1976 engraved…., but after that….shut up!

I’ve recased a few older 8 day movements. It had watchmaker scratching from the 1920s. Those movements are probably close to 90-100 years old. It’s a humbling thought to think that these are still happily ticking away after almost 100 years.

No clue on the service history but these pics were taken after I disassembled them, did a quick rodico cleaning, oiled, reassembled, and regulated. Both working perfectly afterwards. One was working just fine beforehand apart from being +30s. The other had some weird amplitudes in some positions but is fine now. I’ve been getting really lucky with these.

Indeed, but wear will occur after a while.

Not a general rule... We all know Hamiltons 9xx working like charm, in age of 80 or more years...

I assume that most of them were serviced a few times in all those years, they used mineral oil in those days and it dries after a while.

Agree.
However, ut 6497 is a real workhorse. To me it looks more robust than ETA cousin...
I've serviced a bunch of them so far. Some were really destroyed and went to part's bin but major number were saved and ticking happily...

Yes, the UT appears to be a bit more robust.

That makes him more resistant to neglecting...

Short off topic:
I have a bunch of ut285 movements... Really like NOS. I bought them cheap, they came in an old box. All were working but very weird, with strange amplitude.. After two days, I spotted: all of them had Molnia balances

Since I saw pictures before I bought them, I couldn't make any claim...
So I bought one new ut285 balance and now it works like charm...
Others are waiting for new balances, still...
However it says a lot about their robustness as well.
