Plating

Post by Yoda »

Fresh from the plating facility...from left to right: brushed, plain and one supposed to be a wide CdG...

The brushed turned out well, also the plain (why I did that, I don't know), but the one with the train bridge is supposed to be a wide CdG set. It looked good before the plating, so I wonder if the plating was to thick or too shiny.

Rhodium. My contact can plate with all available metals. Fairly cheap, one session regardless of the number of parts, approximately $20.

that is cheap! local guy?... great to make those oxidized bridge plates look brand new!

I always noticed all jewels are removed, exception on the gear train bridge, the raised jewel collars ... those cannot be removed?

Very local, 10 minutes away from my home. The jewel settings comes with the jewels, pushed out and in again after plating.

Maybe for crisp cdg you need to do a thick plating first and then carefully add cdg. Any time I have seen swiss watch makers add decorative finishes, I am almost positive it has been to the nickle, not to the bare brass.
