Hi all,
I’ve had this SF 240 for a while, about to go into a build. I chrcked it yesterday and in the winding position, the stem won’t rotate in either direction. I can see the winding gear train move slightly but nothing. No freewheeling, no winding. If I move to the time set position, all is fine. Anyone experience this before? It seems it popped up out of the blue since I know I’ve wound it before to check power reserve. Is this a clickspring issue?

Has the movement been serviced? Does the balance swing when you shake it?
If I understand correctly, in the winding position, the movement won’t wind?
Are the screws all tightened?

Thanks Tan, I bought this a while back from Buddha Jones, said it was serviced by Yoda. Balance swings perfectly. It will start up if I apply pressure to the stem in the unwind direction.
The screw holding the small gear between the two larger gears with clicksprings looks loose. Start there? I’ve serviced 6497s in the past but this intimidates me a bit...

That helps a lot thank you. My keyless looks good. The screw closest to the crown that rotates when winding isn’t moving on mine. I’ll take it apart and see whats going on.

The alarm units has this intermediate wheel between the two barrels, the small barrel is the alarm and the big is for the movement.
The intermediate wheel is engaging the alarm barrel in the picture, can it move towards the movement barrel?
The screw should be tight, but the unit should move freely left to right.
I can only say that it worked when it was here, whatever happened after it left here is a mystery.
