Cleanning and oiling some parts. You can have dry oil that is preventing the watch to run correctly. Some times the coils also get damage and need to be replace. A service will check all that, opening, cleanning, checking volts and other tests that can help to identify issues in the movement.

Well,

The 30235MY is not the correct battery for this movement.

According to the parts catalog it takes a 3023 24X, so the battery I had was the correct one.

Putting the 3023 24X back in, I went through some of the diagnostics in the parts manual.

I'm guessing the battery wasn't making good contact before as it's working much better now.

In 200 shakes, the voltage of the battery went up nearly a full volt.

Doing a bit more shaking and it's single stepping. It's never done that before after a shake.

Blast from the past here.

So, I was never able to make this thing behave. When I changed the capacitor it worked fine for about 6 months and then didn't.

I've got too many Kinetic's and don't wear any particular one a lot, so over time the charge dissipates.

I've got a Sonicaire charger that works with all my other watches, but didn't work with this one.

So, I was spelunking around the 'bay and a 5j22 watch appeared for $20. Different model, fairly beat up, but according to the description it worked reliably. So I bought it.

I swapped the movement out of this one into the Sportura. It worked fine. It would charge on my Sonicaire, all was well.

Until Saturday. The downside of the AutoRelay is while they will wake up and sweep to the correct time, the date is whenever the thing shut down.

So, generally I cycle through my watches, wearing one a day. I've got 12 (yea, I know...) so typically the two auto-relays have to be "woken-up", and then the date set.

I woke this one up, and set the date. The crown has been getting a bit difficult to tighten of late. It's old and the threads are not exactly in great condition. Evidently I didn't get it tightened up.

After dinner on Saturday I was rinsing some dishes to put in the dishwasher and I noticed the face of the watch was cloudy. The crown had come loose and allowed a goodly amount of water in the watch.

I opened it up as soon as I could to let it dry out.

The second hand sweeps, but neither of the two other hands are moving on their of their own volition.

I realize the movement is prolly trashed, but thought I would ask here.

Any thoughts about getting this thing to keep time?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
