Hello Everyone!

Post by chadgel »

Hello!

I have badly wanted a vintage Pam some fifteen years ago after seeing a long post on the "Kaufhold Radiomir" which I cannot locate now. Life got in the way and only very recently did I get a new watch, a bronze Italian inspired diver that had me thinking again and somehow I discovered this forum.

I have never built or even repaired a watch but the amount of information the admins have compiled and members have contributed is truly amazing and I am grateful. Browsing the forum for just a day has given me an idea of how to build my dream 6154 or 3646. I

The member builds here are amazing! Now, I am quite intimidated with building one myself (zero skills and experience) but having an idea of the cost I would your opinions, is it worth getting a complete watch off TPS Tempus? I intend to wear the watch everyday.

Thank you,

Chad

It was about time then, ask any questions you may have and ask for help regarding sources and how to do this and that.

There are quite a number of highly skilled builders here but, if you want a complete brand new vintage (for whatever that means) river (tps tempus is his ebay name) is a good way to start. Or just spend some time here and I'm sure you'll find the builders and builds for your taste, save some money in the meantime and buy here. Hope this helps.

Hi,

Yes, this an amazing hobby.

Think this: what is better than wearing your own watch/project/build!! It doesn’t matter which level the final result is. Start with the simplest ones and soon you’ll get the experience you need for your dream watch.

„Every expert began as an amateur.“

I would suggest and if you like to build your own watch, start with easy and low budget ones. Why? Because if it won’t work as expected than you haven‘t wasted a fortune. If I say low budget then I mean around ~130€ for all the parts incl. strap via eBay or AliE.

If everything went smoothly and the results meet your expectations then wear and enjoy it until your dream vintage watch will be done by you.

If this hobby won’t be your cup of tea then find one here in our forum. There are a lot amazing watches for sale. I am sure you will find your watch from one of our members.

Shall you need any help for the beginning steps, you are welcome to contact me but of course any other member here.

Think like a amateur, do as an expert!

Have always fun.

Thank you everyone for your advice and well wishes! This is a fantastic hobby, I am truly amazed at the builds here and the skills to make them. I appreciate all the offers for help. I shall plan the build carefully.

Thank @Yoda for your offer, I shall certainly need assistance.

Thank you @earloflondon for your feedback on Tempus/River, I want to start with one of his new watches and age it myself.

Thank you @dj57 I agree it would be pretty cool to be able to say I built my watch myself, I still have to research on parts as I still haven't found a good way to start that beats a whole watch buildsI have seen in cost. But I shall be reading all the forum threads in great detail to learn.

Thank you @straps68 and @daevildog for the welcome!

My best advice is to take apart something that works and learn to put it back together and make it work as it did.
Buy good quality tools, no India stuff, you will regret throwing away money on crap.

Tweezers, screwdrivers, case opener like sticky ball, magnification to begin with, you will find out what you need as you get more comfortable.

The most important thing here is, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Good luck!

Fun and frustration, in one hobby!

Welcome…

And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black."
