Omega Aquaterra with broken glass.

Post by buddhabar »

Hello everyone.
I have a technical question to ask.
Unfortunately the other day the glass (mineral or sapphire ') of a Chinese replica watch broke into a thousand fragments (following a fall).
I have noticed that in the inner part of the ring there is a gray / white plastic gasket.
Originally the glass was semi-domed with also the AR coating and now I would like to fix it or have it fixed.
With the gauge, the measurement I appreciate is about 35mm, detected right inside the gasket.
Do you think I have to order the glass with the exact size? Or should I take it bigger or smaller than 0.5mm instead?
Can you also give me some advice where to find the glass with the same characteristics (including 1.89mm thickness)?
To be more exhaustive public photos of the watch as it was before and as it is now, hoping not to break rules by the fact that it is a reproduction. In this case, take care to delete the post, apologizing to the forum administrators.
Thanks for your support.

AFAIK you have to determine the diameter with a caliper with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. Measure the inside diameter of the gasket with the gasket installed in the bezel. Then you can add 0.1 to 0.2 mm for obtaining the correct crystal diameter.
Crystals come usually in 0.2 mm steps.
I know of the following sources: Aliexpress, eBay and perhaps DHGate. There you might have a chance to grab a coated sapphire crystal. But the search will be cumbersome. The alternative is looking up Sternkreuz catalogue and order from Cousins or any other professional watch part supplier.

@hako
Thanks a lot mate.
I think your suggestion is correct. In fact, measuring with a precision gauge, the internal measurement with mounted gasket is 34.89mm and therefore it follows that the crystal must be 35mm and 1.8mm thick. A friend suggested to me that the Seiko SNZG are the same size and that I can also find it slightly domed and with AR blue.
Thanks again for your valuable suggestion.

Yep 35 should fit.
If the seiko crystals would fit then there would probably much more options s to get a AR coated sapphire. Try crystaltimes.

Yes indeed. Thanks again.
Crystaltimes in europe i think is the right way to order it. Although I have seen availability on other websites.

Cheers.
