Panerai lawsuit

I’ve always wondered about international copyright laws in China and how the rep market stays alive.

Interesting read and decision for Panerai. This is such a “tip of the behemoth sized iceberg” situation, it’s laughable.

Strange court decision... That leaves too much space for personal interpretation of copycat models...

If that watch got nailed for being a "counterfeit", then a whole lots of companies that stick their own name on a Sub Case, B&R style square case, etc are all in for an eye opener.

PS: Damn that Panerai head office is an ugly building, old and without any sort of character.

Does that means we should change the font type on homage dials?

thousands of real copies being sold or on sale now ))) but they sew in a cort company that produced a parody on Panerai. apologies to designer, my meaning is he tried to make it much different, but he happened to be the one whom was more easy to sew in a cort. I doubt it was a big threat to Panerai. I talked in Guangzhou market with some watch dillers, they explained to me , you can sell openly very bad copies, but for high quality replicas you can have problems. just another show off case to tell, can you see, we fighting piracy...

Just like I said in the other forum: are they going to sue Steinhart and every other brand using merceds style hands or rotating bezels with a triangle anda a pearl at 12?

I know, right? I wonder how many lawsuits Steinhart has dealt with? I can’t imagine they have gone unscathed.

Also, I wonder how many lawsuits Rolex has dealt with and have won?

What‘s ironic to me with this Panerai lawsuit is I think this other brand made a decent attempt to apply their own touches similar to any other homage but they are the ones getting nailed for trying to “legally” enter into the watch market. Meanwhile, the clone or exact copy factories continue to get away with it. I’m sure they still get caught, but does Panerai benefit monetarily from the clone factories getting caught, or are the factory owners just imprisoned and/or fined then pay local Chinese (or other country) penalties?

What’s worse for a big brand? Having this situation with another name, or exact clones with your name on counterfeit watches? I’d say the 1st issue. The second would be good marketing. Any money lost from counterfeit sales should be considered an investment for marketing your brand

Ok, ok. I’m pretty sure others do not agree so go easy on me with this statement.

You're right. Oyster case had been copied even by the Swiss manufacturers as well in the past. Some of them are still around
