teens unable to read analogue clocks - wtf!

Post by MK_FR91 »

Found this link while browsing the news on internet:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2 ... rs-unable/

Instead of making sure kids still know how to read the time the good old fashion way, they just go easy on them....

I was surprised the other day because a Master's student in our lab was really not comfortable reading the time on an analog clock....

So will future kids have a Rolex for bling on one wrist and a digital/smart watch on the other   ?!!

Wow....

If that’s a widespread issue, mechanical luxury watch companies are doomed

Just goes to show how "modern" schooling has failed miserably. Personally, I feel that the "dumbing down" is by design...

Most kids and parents today are just plain idiots. Enough said.

Well to present another opinion. It is true that it is faster to tell time on a digital watchface. Since every second matters in an exam. it may be s better idea to use digital?

It is not faster for me. To me it's like the Chinese characters, if you know them they're faster to "read" than latin letters - same with an anolog watch - I don't read the time, I just know by a glance.

Same Down Under….sucks

The school (we pay money, so the girls do not become bogans) is only interested in delivering the lowest acceptable level. I had many arguments with the “educators” about the merits of various things….NOTHING. While we “should” admire teachers, BUT school has become (primary at least) an expensive and glorified day care centre…
