Welcome Benny! your nick is golden now

To my understanding, an homage is when you build something similar to the original BUT it's clearly not the same nor the maker tries to pass it as gen. That includes not using trademarked brands or logos on any of the parts.

I’m not sure what that link above is... to me Homage is a tribute ... no trademarks.. easy to distinguish from the gen by any reasonable collector.. with no attempt to pass it off as the real thing.

Glad to have you here Benny.

To be a smart ass: "hommage" is homage spelled incorrectly.

Both Tanukjaju and Emilio got it right, naturally :)

Great topic….

For me (as OWC and a watch lover) a homage is (as you have already explained) an easily recognisable design from another maker or era.

Of course, I love homages and why wouldn’t you…. every watch brand as a sub may have a Royal Oak, Seiko has a Nautilus. We are not all blessed with enough money or desire to spend the money, and a homage is a great way to remain connected to the design. In some cases, the watch is astronomically expensive or no longer in production.

The further the design moves away from the original, the less it fits the homage definition. For me at OWC, we sometime product homages and sometimes product ISO watches – In the Spirit Of.

Either way I love watches and any way a fellow watch lover can connect with the design is OK with me. It just spreads the love to those less economically advantaged.
