True, but most are expressing clear preferences one way or the other. A civil debate doesn’t require negatives, but can be just a comparison of positives.thelonedoc wrote: ↑October 20th, 2019, 1:13 am You know, I dont really think there is even a debate here. I haven't read anyone's post who has given a negative opinion, or even a criticism of any kind.

I prefer display CB, to have a look to my beautiful movements and to see everything working inside.

Solid or display depending on:
- the original reference example.
- the beauty of the movement.
In that order.

Both are okay with me. Although I reckon I would have a hard time covering a Rolex movement.Sandwich wrote:So I assume that means you prefer solid over display in general if that is the gen format? Do I tally you as a solid guy then? Or ambivalent?
That's why I tend to use 6497

How about covering a good looking 618 if it's the gen format?Emilio wrote: ↑October 31st, 2019, 5:45 pmBoth are okay with me. This is exactly why I use asian movements and solid casebacks in my 3646 builds. Gen accurate caseback, and save a fortune.
Open casebacks on the later models 6154 6152/1 WL etc.
Those builds get the grail movements.

Re: Debate: Solid versus display casebacks
To me (and this is where many will disagree), a grail watch is all the more reason to follow grail design. Early Panerais were work tools first and foremost, with solid casebacks and no frills. That's what makes them beautiful to me, and to put a display CB on one contradicts that principle. To me (no offense to those who disagree), putting a display CB on a gen-like 3646 is like putting polished chrome wheels on a 1:1 vintage Porsche 356, or colorizing a classic black and white movie. To each their own!
