Seiko 6105-8119 or 8110 Anyone?

Post by Thrasher »

Has anyone here ever built a Captain Willard Apocalypse Now Seiko 6105 ? I have seen genuines that are Thrashed for $2500 and the new reissue SLA033 for $3700. I've seen a Sharkey 6105 for $150 and some Sterile builds on AliBaba for $100 that really look great, Aftermarket Dials are available but date window doesn't line up well with NH35 movement, Typical Homage is sporting a NH35. Watchuseek has lots of threads and builds. I would sure like to find a good formula for a great build but not so much luck yet. Anyone have Knowledge of these???? Thanks in Advance

I have a 6309-7040 with 6105 dial. To be honest, it is one of my favorite watches in my collection. It gets worn with the most consistency all my casual summer watches. It is super comfortable.

I did not personally build it and probably has an aftermarket dial. I have had the watch for years and the movement has been a workhorse.

The case is a little different than 6105. However, you get the bonus of 20mm strap vs 6105 18mm. I will wear a watch with 20mm strap vs 18mm everyday of the week.

You can build/purchase cost effecticiently with a Gen seiko case. The older seiko cases have natural patina. (The kind we all try to recreate) You can wear it with without worrying about damage to 6105. There are countless 1970s Gen bezel inserts floating around with the same patina. Lastly, all the parts will fit.

I have looked at some of the newer 6105 homages watches. However, I liked this turtle some much, I purchased one of the new models when they 1st came out.

This might not be everyones cup of tea. Not really historical accurate. For a wearable watch, it works great for me.

That looks excellent. From what I gather its a 28.5 dial on a NH35. Dial here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Proof-Dial-for ... 3180037034

There is a SPB151J1 coming out allegedly that's very close for MSRP $1200 and not limited like the SLA033

The appeal for me its a Movie watch and I love the unique case and crown position

This is the closest watch I currently own

I started out with modding Seiko's back when they were way more affordable. 6105's were under $200 and 6309's were under $140. I've done like 3 6105's and alot of 6309's. Both were very easy to work on back then, as parts were plentiful and affordable.
Here's a couple that I did when I was going through my bead blasting phase.

Wish I had them now.........I'd be rich...ImageImageImageImage

I'm now thinking about the Lamafa Diver by Athaya after reading this thread.

I think it was of good quality.

I own a Typhoon 9 Homage. I'm more than happy with it [emoji846] (I know it's not a 1:1 and that's what I like)Image

I almost bought this watch but never pulled the trigger. Someone else buy it and tell me if it is worth it.

I went the cheap route. 100 bucks from the bay.
And I was quite positively surprised by the quality. And that is also true for the lume.

I like that version you own. The blue and black with wave dial looks great!

I put mine on a Borealis rubber dive strap (like the isofrane). It works well.
